Co-operation
Kilingi-Nõmme
has historically been the economic and cultural centre of Saarde
parish. Also today is Kilingi-Nõmme a town with relatively
balanced structure that renders services to a large area. This has created
preconditions for co-operation in different spheres with Saarde Commune,
less with Surju and Tali Communes.
1991 was a friendship and co-operation agreement signed with Hebby
Commune in Sweden.
The co-operation encompasses most spheres of life. A joint project in
social welfare and public health is in initial phase.
In 1991 started co-operation with Tärnsjö/Östervåla
LIONS club. Tärnsjö/Östervåla LIONS club
has helped our town materially and organised co-operation in spheres
of culture and education.
Kilingi-Nõmme participates in a development
program of Estonian communes and towns that begun in 1992.
Kalle Kiipus, the exmayor of Kilingi-Nõmme is since 1995 manager
of the sub-project of the co-operation of friendship municipalities.
The aim of the project is to share experiences between Swedish and Estonian
municipalities.
In 1998 was Kilingi-Nõmme accepted as a member in international
project European
Cultural Villages.
